Lai Wah Restaurant

It has more than a year since I patronized this restaurant called Lai Wah Restaurant. This restaurant has a long history and has been around since 1963.  This is also the first restaurant to serve the Chinese New Year Yu Sheng.

Here's what we have ordered:

- Pi Pa Duck

The Pi Pa Duck is crispy on the outside and the meat is tender on the inside. However, I find that that sauce was kindof too sweet and does not go well with the duck maybe because the duck itself has a strong flavour.

- Mandarin Stewed Chicken

This dish is my all time favourite, the chicken is very delicious, it is stewed till it's nice and soft and it has absorbed the goodness of the sauce in which you can also find tau kee and black fungus in it. I would highly recommend that you try this dish or you will regret.

- Crispy Squids with Salted Egg Yolk

The Crispy Squid is indeed crispy, the crust is coated with salted egg yolk that makes the dish very fragrant.

- Beancurd with Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber and Vegetables

The Beancurd is also very tasty, it is s silky and smooth, accompanied with fish maw, sea cucumber and vegetables. The fish maw and sea cucumber is nice and soft and more importantly, it goes well with the braised sauce that makes the dish very tasty.

- Stir Fry Sambal Long Beans

I find that Sambal Long Beans is pretty normal but I must say that their sambal chilli is very fragrant. This dish could have been even better if the long beans are cooked till it's softer and sprinkled with small crispy fried shrimps.

- Seafood Braised Rice

The Braised Rice is tasty and the rice is slightly charred, adding more flavour to the dish. You can find seafood such as prawns, sotong and sliced fish that is very fresh. The braised sauce tastes light yet delicious and more importantly, it is not oily.

Overall, I find that  their food is pretty good and the restaurant has lots of hidden treasures that I have yet to try out. You must also check this place out yourself to believe.

Margaret Drive Teochew Fishball Noodles

I was at Bedemeer Food Centre again today to check out this famous Fishball noodles stall that was previously located at Margaret Drive. I ordered a bowl of Mee Pok dry with chilli for only S$2.50. They were very generous with their serving of noodles. I had wanted to add more noodles but I was warned beforehand that the portion is quite alot and true enough it was just nice for me. The texture of the Mee Pok was springy and goes well with the chilli sauce. They added alot of fried garlic and lard making it very fragrant. The fishballs were also very fresh and springy, I find that the soup had a natural flavour of the fishballs and the "Tang Chai" added a little more flavour to it. This is one of the better Fishball Noodles I have tasted. Fans of this Margaret Drive Fishball Noodles, you can finally check out this stall again.

Sims Place Prawn Noodles

I went to Bendemeer Market and Food Centre for lunch today. I ordered a bowl of Pork Rib Bee Hoon Soup with Pig Intestines from this stall called Sims Place Prawn Noodles. This is one of my favourite stalls at Bendemeer Food Centre. This stall has awards and recommendations by the various variety show such as City Beat. The Pork Rib Bee Hoon was fantastic. The pork ribs were cooked till it's nice and soft. The soup was tasty and is filled with the sweetness from the prawns and pork ribs. The pig intestines are fresh, cleaned thoroughly and does not taste bitter. The fried spring onions and lard that was added into the soup to make it even more fragrant. This is definitely one of the better ones I have tasted. You must check out this stall to believe.
